Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI)

The Adult Learning Inspectorate (ALI) is a non-departmental public body. It is responsible for inspecting the quality of education and training for adults and young people in England, raising standards and reporting its findings back to both the Secretary of State for Education and the public.

The ALI also promotes good practice, advises government on national policies, and helps learners to make informed choices about the quality of courses.

In 2005, the Department for Education and Skills launched a consultation on plans to enlarge Ofsted to create a single inspectorate for children and learners, which would carry on the work of ALI.
