Basic Skills Agency
The Basic Skills Agency (BSA) is a small, independent organisation that aims to raise standards in basic skills; reading, writing and speaking in English/Welsh, and using maths.
Taking a 'cradle to grave' approach to improving literacy and numeracy skills, the BSA has pioneered quality standards for schools; run family literacy and numeracy programmes; worked with voluntary and community organisations; and developed workplace basic skills programmes.
The agency's priorities include improving speaking and listening skills, engaging the disengaged and improving retention in adult basic skills.
The BSA is funded by the Department for Education and Skills and the Welsh Assembly Government.
