LSC

Organisation - How the LSC is set up

The LSC was created by the Learning and Skills Act 2000 and amended by the Further Education and Training Act 2007 to ‘modernise and simplify’ the planning, funding and delivery of education and training for people over the age of 16 in England, other than those in universities. We began our work in April 2001.

National strategy is decided by our National Council, made up of non-executive members representing a wide range of sectors.

Our work at a regional level will be overseen by more than 100 Regional Council members, each Regional Council will have representatives from employers, learning providers and community groups. These Regional Councils will be ratified in early September 2008, until then Regional Boards are overseeing the work at the regional level.

Our Management Group of executives has day-to-day responsibility for the running of the national organisation, while our regional directors are responsible for delivering practical support tailored to local and regional education and training needs.

For information on regional directors visit the regional sites.

Internally, the LSC is divided into five groups: Learning, Skills, Resources, Strategy, Communications and Human Resources.
