Joint LSC / RMIF / Deloitte statement - 14 April 2008
Sale of Apprentice Learning Division to RMIF
The Learning and Skills Council is aware that the Administrator (Deloitte) has sold the Apprentice Learning Division, part of the Carter and Carter Group plc (in administration) to the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF). RMIF has established a new training arm, ReMIT Ltd to take over the running of Carter and Carter’s former apprentice programmes.
David Russell, National Director of Finance and Resources for the LSC said, “We are pleased that the training arrangements for 2,800 apprentice learners, of which 2,000 are funded by the LSC, and their employers are now clearer. We will work closely with ReMIT to ensure that there is a smooth transition and that the needs of learners and employers are met.
“The sales managed by the Administrator so far, has kept the disruption to learners’training to a minimum. The LSC is pleased with the rapid response from across the further education sector to offer high quality training alternatives for employers and learners.”
The LSC is continuing its work with employers and training providers across the country to secure new training arrangements for approximately 1,500 learners associated with the remaining Skills Division in the Carter and Carter Group.
Joint Administrator, Chris Farrington, commented "The ReMIT name is a well known brand throughout the UK in automotive apprentice training, particularly amongst independent garages and dealerships, and we were delighted to complete the sale of the business. The sale safeguards the jobs of around 30 people still employed by Carter and Carter, and gives opportunity for the new owners to re-employ a number of former staff, as well as preserving this valuable training resource for future generations of apprentices and employers."
A dedicated helpline 0800 046 6198 is available for all learners and employers concerned or affected by the changes to the Carter and Carter Group plc.
