The largest network of retail training centres in the UK will be unveiled today, with the nationwide launch of the National Skills Academy for Retail. Lord Young, Minister for Skills and Apprenticeships, will join Theo Paphitis of Dragons’ Den, Mary ‘Queen of Shops’ Portas, Charlie Mayfield Chairman of John Lewis Partnership and Ian Cheshire CEO of Kingfisher Plc in London this evening to celebrate the launch of this exciting initiative.

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has put in a place support for colleges to help those students affected by delays to their Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) payments.

The Learning and Skills Council has confirmed that all eligible students who apply for the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) and who may have experienced delays with the processing of their application form will get all the payments for which they are eligible. All payments will be backdated and no-one will miss out.

As young people discover their GCSE results today, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) reveals the actual benefit of each qualification. To prove the importance of gaining essential qualifications - such as five A*-C GCSEs or the vocational equivalent - the LSC has calculated the added value of each GCSE to someone's starting salary, to help demonstrate the link between higher qualifications and a higher starting salary.
