DSAT 2008/09 software and documentation

The Data Self-assessment Toolkit (DSAT) for funding year 2008/09 will work by analysing data exported from the Learner Information Suite (LIS) series 16 and producing DSAT reports on these data.

The DSAT will give providers a toolkit to enable them to perform their own funding analysis, whether or not the provider will receive a funding audit during 2008/09.

The DSAT has been designed to:

  • provide colleges with a toolkit to enable them to perform their own analysis on their ILR data;
  • give Employer Responsive and Learner Responsive providers’ data and reports to enable them to perform their own analysis; and assist auditors in the audit of providers’ ILR data for 2008/09.

The DSAT v9 software will only process 2008/09 ILR data for Employer Responsive and Learner Responsive returns. A number of users are attempting to load 2009/10 ILR data into the DSATs and depending on the user’s Microsoft Office Installation and operating system various error messages are displayed at differing stages of the load/ reporting process.

DSATs v10 for 2009/10 (which will include all v9 functionality) is now due to be released in late November 2009.

Known Issue
Provider DSAT v9.30 – Program Processing Issue.
Some users of DSAT v9.30 are experiencing problems with the speed/processing time for reports.  We have carried out some initial investigation and have found that despite no changes in the actual processing, the time taken to generate reports for larger providers has significantly increased.  Users have shut down DSAT and then restarted the process to find that the generated data file is only partially completed or empty (this has been caused by orphaned processes being left running in the background).

When using DSAT, users must wait for the pop-up screen stating “Your Selected Reports have been run. Do you wish to view the reports?” or an error message before closing DSAT. If a user has to abort the DSAT process then they should reboot their computer before attempting to run DSAT again.
