Age Group Business Definition 2008/2009

DEFINITION

1. Age Group is a categorisation based on the age of the learner either on 31st August in the relevant academic year, or at the start of an aim.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

2. The possible ranges are:

  • 0 – 15
  • 16 – 18
  • 19 – 20
  • 21 – 24
  • 25 – 59
  • 60 – 120
  • Any other value, including missing values

3. Where this classification is used in reports or analyses, sometimes the groupings are banded for example to be simply 16 -18 and 19+ (learners below 16 would be considered as 16 -18 and those with unknown age would be 19+). This is the most typical banding as it matches that used in the 16-18 and Adult Learner Responsive funding models.
