Aims Standard File 2008/2009

  1. The Learning Aims Standard File has one row of data per aim.

PURPOSE

  1. The Learning Aims Standard File is used for the analysis of aims level data. For example, creating reports indicating the proportion of sector subject areas studied (A_SSA_T1 and A_SSA_T2) within various geographical areas.

  2. This dataset is part of the following collections
    • The Standard Files Collection

DETAILED DEFINITION

  1. The standard files are created by running the 'standard code' on the raw data collected using the Individualised Learner Record (ILR). The standard code introduces a number of derived variables to the data which are stored in the standard files. The data is converted to both SPSS and Crystal format for analysis and reporting.

  2. A learner can have a number of aim records and each aim record is uniquely identified by a combination of the Provider Number (L01), the Learner Reference Number (L03) fields and the Learning aim data set sequence (A05) fields.

  3. The table below shows the fields within the Learning Aims Standard File.

  4. Where the variable name is of the form 'Lxx' or 'Axx' (where xx is a two digit number) then this is taken from the field of the same name in the Individualised Learner Record (ILR) datasets. Definitions for these variables are available in the 2008/09 ILR Specification on the Information Authority Website.

  5. The definitions for the aims level Derived Variables (those with 'A_' prefix) and some learner level Derived Variables (those with 'L_' prefix) can be found by following the hyperlinks in the Variable Name column of the table.
