ESF Standard File 2008/2009

  1. The European Social Fund (ESF) Co-financing data set has one row per ESF co-financed aim.

PURPOSE

  1. The ESF Standard File is used for the analysis of ESF co-financed aims and learners.

  2. This dataset is part of the following collections
    • The Standard Files Collection

DETAILED DEFINITION

  1. The standard files are created by running the 'standard code' on the raw data collected using the Individualised Learner Record (ILR). The standard code introduces a number of derived variables to the data which are stored in the standard files. The data is converted to both SPSS and Crystal format for analysis and reporting.

  2. There is an ESF co-financing record in the ESF standard file for each learning aim which may be eligible for LSC ESF co-financing and each learning aim that is matched to such funding. There is a one to one relationship between the learning aim and the ESF standard file, using L01, L03 and A05.

  3. The table below shows the fields within the ESF Standard File.

  4. Where the variable name is of the form 'Lxx', 'Axx' or Exx (where xx is a two digit number) then this is taken from the field of the same name in the Individualised Learner Record (ILR) datasets. The definition of each variable is given in the ILR specification. The hyperlink will take you to the ILR page where you can view the latest specification.

  5. The definitions for the ESF standard file Derived Variables (those with 'E_' prefix) and some learner level Derived Variables (those with 'L_' prefix) can be found by following the hyperlinks in the Variable Name column of the table.
