Our Structure
LOCAL OFFICES
The LSC currently has local offices across 9 regions to deliver national initiatives with a local perspective. Each local LSC work with employers, schools, colleges and training organisations to provide courses that will bring sustained benefit to their communities. They are supported by representatives from employers, learning providers and community groups to help provide local solutions to local needs, in line with national strategy.
Each office is organised into three directorates:
Strategy – taking an overall view of the local office’s activity and planning the next steps and future direction.
Workforce development – building and maintaining productive relationships with employers and assigning funds for courses.
Learning and skills – liaising with schools and colleges and authorising appropriate courses. Improving the learning opportunities on offer, and the quality of learning and training provision, are constant priorities.
The local offices analyse feedback from learners and employers, and draw on the skills of Ofsted and the Adult Learning Inspectorate, to help them measure how effective courses are and pinpoint ways in which standards can be raised in the local area.

NATIONAL OFFICE
Cheylesmore House, in Coventry is at the heart of our organisation. Supported by a smaller office in London, it is the base for our leadership, the powerhouse of our national policy and the hub of the central services provided to our local offices.
Our National Office is organised along clear and simple lines, so decisions can be made swiftly and we stay in touch with the real needs of each region. Led by 15 members of the National Council, including the Chief Executive and representatives from employer, trade union, learning provider and community groups, we have five groups: Learning, Skills, Resources, Strategy and Human Resources.
Learning brings together our expertise on learning for young people and adults, the funding of learning, and the quality of provision. It develops learning and funding strategies, and builds relationships with training providers to ensure young people and adults receive the best possible service.
Skills is our centre of expertise for the development of skills, and is responsible for our relationships with employers and key business agencies. The Group works closely with the Sector Skills Councils and key employer-led organisations to secure their involvement in skills training.
Resources cover finance, information management, data and facilities. It leads on strategic financial analysis and planning, formulates our financial policy, manages our procurement and audit functions and ensure the services we obtain provide value for money.
Strategy and Communications is in charge of all aspects of our internal and external communications. It ensures we devise and implement the most effective PR and marketing strategies, and that we make best use of all media channels. It also provides advice on governance and legal issues to the chair, chief executive and across the network, and enables the LSC to meet national targets by putting coherent planning and performance frameworks in place.
Human Resources are involved in areas that help organisation achieve its aims – recruitment, people development, performance and rewards, equality and diversity, succession planning and strategic support to managers.
Our National Office has been designed to support our open and progressive culture. Light, comfortable and airy, it offers all the latest office equipment and catering facilities, plus a Knowledge Centre providing valuable information and learning resources. In terms of accessibility it could hardly be better. Coventry railway station is within easy walking distance. The motorway network is within three miles, and Birmingham Airport is only one stop away from Coventry by train. There is also a car park on site, and a frequent bus service to and from Coventry City Centre.
