The Essex Skills Pledge Club

Skills Pledge Logo“Committed to rewarding and developing staff. Committed to the future”

Background

Following discussions about the strategy for promoting the Skills Pledge as an incentive to drive commitment to skills development, the Essex Skills Pledge Club was launched in Autumn 2008.Janice Logie Launches the Skills Pledge Club

The aim of the club is to encourage organisations to see the genuine benefits of the Skills Pledge as a vehicle for encouraging continuous staff development and to involve their stakeholders and partners in the drive.

Key to the success of the project will be creating incentives to encourage new members to join, but also to ensure that they ‘pass the baton’. We have generated a number of ideas that we have discussed at meetings and continue to develop. Amongst these are:

  • Physically awarding a baton/plaque to any member introducing a number of new organisations to the pledge. This would have associated press opportunities and increased status/profile.
  • Requiring new members to introduce the organisations before they become a full member; so creating aspirant/associate members and full member status.
  • Annual award ceremonies with high profile speakersJames Averdieck of GU.
  • First opportunity to hear and discuss new initiatives and changes to eligibility criteria.
  • Opportunity to feed into consultation.

Terms of Reference  have been created.

Mission

  • To raise the profile of the Skills Pledge and recognise its importance for employers and learners.
  • To make the Skills Pledge aspirational to encourage more employers to sign up.
  • To form an umbrella group for raising standards and improving training.
  • To be a conduit for communication with the LSC National Office and the National Skills Pledge Campaign.Passing the Baton to FedEx
