Ian Haworth was appointed the Lancashire Director of the Learning and Skills Council in September 2006. He has worked in education since 1998 when he was appointed as the Director of External Relations and Communications for the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). He played a major role in the merger of UMIST and the University of Manchester, which took place in September 2005. He was responsible for the brand, communications and marketing of the merged university and served on the merger implementation board. Following the merger, he became The University of Manchester’s Director of Public and Government Relations. Born in November 1960, Ian is an avid supporter of Manchester City Football Club, enjoys reading, particularly history and current affairs, and is a frequent visitor to the cinema.
