North West Learner Awards
The LSC’s 2008 National Apprenticeship Awards were launched on 3 December. Now in their fifth year, the Awards are designed to recognise the hard work and commitment of young people currently on, or who have recently completed an Apprenticeship, and employers who are successfully using Apprenticeships to improve business performance.
The 2007 awards attracted more than 1,000 entries, including Jonathan Pearson, 22, an apprentice at Lancashire based Schwan’s Consumer Brands, who won the the Apprentice of the Year title.
This year in the North West the LSC will be running five sub-regional Awards, called the LSC Learner Awards, in Cheshire & Warrington, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Greater Merseyside and Lancashire. These will feed into a North West regional final and from there into the LSC National Apprenticeship Awards.
The North West sub-regional Awards will consist of the same categories as the National Apprenticeship Awards. The North West Awards also include two FE categories – FE Academic Learner of the Year and FE Vocational Learner of the Year.
The sub-regional 'Oscar' style finals were held as follows
*In Cumbria, the LSC North West Learner Awards form part of the Excellence in Cumbria Awards which this year are being run by Cumbria Chamber of Commerce
