Greater Manchester winners announced

The winners of the Greater Manchester leg of the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) North West Learner Awards have been announced at a glittering awards ceremony at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester.

They were presented with a trophy and cheque for £250 by BBC TV presenter John Craven OBE. The highly commended finalists received a cheque for £100 and a certificate.

Winners included:

Apprentice Employer of the Year Award

Personal Achiever of the Year Award
James Brock

Apprentice of the Year Award
Michelle Officer
Training provider - Skills Solution
Employer - ANS Group plc

Advanced Apprentice of the Year Award
Danielle Gowrie
Training provider - Total People Ltd
Employer - Dean Valley Equestrian Centre

Guest of honour John Craven OBE praised the finalists for their dedication and achievement, and said: "Apprenticeship is such an honourable word - skilled craftsmen and women passing on their knowledge and experience to ensure skills are retained for future generations. Many of the skills I learned as an apprentice have stood me in good stead throughout my working life. Tonight you are the stars of the show, the future of this country, and you are all winners - congratulations."

Jane Bracewell, Area Director for Greater Manchester South, congratulated everyone who had been nominated for the awards, and added: “These awards play their part in the LSC’s aim to make England a better skilled country. Being nominated is an achievement in its own right, there are no losers in learning. We have heard so many success stories tonight, I’ve been amazed by how much people have achieved.”
