Merseyside teens in line for awards
Eight Merseyside Apprentices are celebrating after being named as finalists in the Merseyside leg of the prestigious Learning and Skills Council (LSC) North West Learner Awards.
Emma Mason, who is 19 and from Walton, Jayne Watterson, who is 22 and from Leasowe, and 18 year old Craig Whyte of Allerton, are the finalists for the Personal Achiever of the Year Award. Gary Moore, 19 and from Lydiate and Susan Logie, 25 and from Netherton, are finalists in the Apprentice of the Year category.
Lyndsey Anderson, who is 24 and from Fazakerley, Jennifer Hamilton, 25, from Litherland, and Kieran Carruthers, who is 20 and from Ellesmere Port, are the finalists in the category Advanced Apprentice of the Year.
The winners for each category will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony to be held at Anfield on the 19 May, at which veteran football player Alan Kennedy will be guest of honour.
They beat applications from youngsters across the county to get to the final and be given the chance to win a £250 prize. All finalists will receive a cheque for £100. The winner in each category could then be named North West Regional Winner in June, competing against winners from Cheshire and Warrington, Cumbria, Greater Manchester and Lancashire. All entries into the regional awards are automatically entered into the LSC’s National Apprenticeship Awards, so they could also be in with a chance of being named national winner and receive a prize of up to £1,500.
The awards are held to recognise and reward excellence in learning, skills and achievement in individuals and organisations. They also develop links between local businesses and learning providers. The six award categories are Apprentice of the Year, Advanced Apprentice of the Year, Personal Achiever of the Year, Employer of the Year, Further Education Vocational Learner of the Year and Further Education Academic Learner of the Year.
