The Manchester College
Between May 2006 and February 2007, the Learning and Skills Council commissioned two extensive reviews of further education in Manchester, both of which consulted a wide range of stakeholders.
At the end of the first review, a series of options was presented, but there was a clear recommendation that bringing together City College Manchester and Manchester College of Arts and Technology would provide the best way forward for Manchester. In addition to this, the second report concluded that it would be important to have a single new college, rather than simply merging the two existing colleges.
The Joint Working Group and the corporations have unanimously welcomed these recommendations and are now in a formal process to propose a merger of the two colleges, where both corporations are dissolved and their property, rights and liabilites are transferred to a new corporation - a new Manchester College.
