Our Skills Festival for 2007 has now been confirmed for 10 - 12 October.

Last year’s event, held at Brighton racecourse on 4 October, was a huge success, with over 60 interactive exhibits; four master classes, including an audience with Sally Gunnell; and over 5000 attendees.

Skills Festival Update
With over 5300 learners confirmed as attending over the three days, the Sussex Skills Festival for 2007 promises to be an outstanding event. This year we are promising a vast range of exhibits, across numerous skills sectors.

Skills zones
This year the event will be themed into 7 colour-coded zones, 5 of which will be divided into different skills sectors. There will be interactive exhibits in these zones demonstrating a wide range of skills that each learner can try out for themselves whilst also having the opportunity to talk with a representative.

The skills zones and their appropriate colours are as follows:

Red: Construction, Engineering and Science

Blue: Retail, Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism, Hair and Beauty

Green: Education, Healthcare, Care, Childcare and Public and Community Services

Purple: Business, ICT, Music, Media, Visual and Expressive Arts

Orange: Animal Care, Horticulture, Environmental Health and Heritage

Pink: The Staff Room

There will also be a zone designed for learners to discuss their future plans. This will be known as myfuturesussex.com The name of the zone will also showcase the online area-based prospectus www.myfuturesussex.com where learners will have the opportunity to use the prospectus online. Learners will be able to talk to Connexions advisers about future pathways into education or employment, Aim Higher will have delegates on hand to discuss Higher Education with learners, and there will be advisors present to discuss plans for those who are interested in one of the 200 Apprenticeships available across more than 80 sectors in England.

The Staff Room
A teacher zone, to be named The Staff Room, will be located above the main festival area. The Staff Room will be exclusively for education practitioners and information here will centre on continuing professional development, new provision coming online and the area prospectus will also be available to use.

The Adult and Young People Open Evening (Thursday 11th October 2007- 5.30pm – 8.30pm)
As well as featuring numerous exhibits that are present in the day there will be masterclasses running with Red or Dead designer Wayne Hemmingway and celebrity chef Momma Cherri, tutored beer tasting, a floristry masterclass and wine tasting.

Connexions ‘Speed Interviewing’ 
For those who are currently 16-19, and who are currently not in education, employment or training this is an opportunity to talk to Connexions Personal Advisers, and potential trainers or employers in an informal atmosphere about the current options available. Individuals must have pre-booked with their local Connexions Personal Adviser to attend, to do this call 01424 725780 for more information.
