West at Work helps build the West of England

More than 120 employers attended a recent breakfast seminar aimed at encouraging local construction companies to share in the success that new developments are bringing to the area.

Building the West of England was the first in a series of events aimed at informing small to medium sized companies about what is needed to win contracts on large developments such as Cabot Circus in Bristol, the Southgate Centre in Bath, the Science Park in South Gloucestershire and the Weston Area Framework Development in North Somerset.

The event was organised by West at Work, a partnership project that aims to make sure that local people have the opportunities and skills to meet employers’ needs – both now and in the future.

Bovis Lend Lease and local training provider On Site both gave presentations at the event and offered help and advice about training and skills and other necessary criteria. Further events will take place across the area later in the year.

West at Work is a partnership between the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), the South West of England Regional Development Agency (South West RDA), Jobcentre Plus, Business West, Connexions, Bath and North East Somerset Council, Bristol City Council, North Somerset Council and South Gloucestershire Council.
