Skills shortages challenge South West financial services

Skills shortages, lack of applicants and an ageing workforce could have a damaging impact on the future competitive standing of the financial services sector in the South West if businesses don’t act now. These are the findings of a report1 launched today by the National Skills Academy for Financial Services (NSAFS) which has been set up to enhance the quality of training and skills for the industry in the region.

Councils pledge to train thousands of employees

Thousands of Council employees will now have the chance to be trained to a minimum of Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE standard), thanks to all West of England Local Authorities making the Skills Pledge.;Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol City, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire Local Authorities will all make the Skills Pledge on Friday 19 September at BAWA, Filton, Bristol.

Train to Gain celebrates Second Anniversary

Train to Gain is today celebrating its second anniversary, with more than 13,000 companies in the South West having signed up to the service which helps businesses develop the skills of their employees and improve their productivity and competitiveness.;Across the region, Train to Gain – the Learning and Skills Council’s (LSC) skills brokerage service – has helped businesses and organisations from a wide-range of sectors since its launch in 2006, with those from the construction and health and social work sectors;leading the way.
