A Learning and Skills Council (LSC) course designed to help disadvantaged young parents in North Devon has far exceeded its targets and has been extended as a result. The pilot course was originally designed to improve young peoples’ life skills and future employment prospects. The results were astounding as not only did all but one of the participants pass the course, but over 30% now either have a job or begun university or college courses.

Hundreds of plant operatives in the South West could find themselves unable to work if they fail to complete a new training scheme.;There are currently 5,100 plant operators in the South West out of a total construction workforce of 204,000. And only those possessing a Construction Plant Certification Scheme (CPCS) card are able to use plant machinery.
