Subcontractor

Join forces: how to be a sub-contractor?

Small businesses have competed successfully for contracts and licences in the past – and they will for the London 2012 Games. It’s not always easy. They will be in competition with major national and international businesses as well as with other small businesses.

In many cases a slice of the pie is better than no pie at all. These contracts represent huge commitments and sometimes even the largest bidders may need help. Sub-contracting could well be the answer for many small businesses who want to get involved as suppliers for the Games. Keep in mind, however, that sub-contractors may not get much profile for their business.

To identify sub-contracting opportunities, businesses will need to regularly check the London 2012 website at http://www.london2012.org/en/ and Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) website at http://www.london2012.org/en/ourvision/ODA/Procurement+opportunities.htm as well, for news of winning bidder’s contract and licence awards.

Local businesses are strongly advised to consider contacting bid winners to make sure they know there is a willing and able local partner available. Local businesses must be prepared and ready to approach the bigger businesses with their products, services and ideas.
