Adult Learning Grant
Adult Learning Grant (ALG) is a means tested allowance of up to £30 per week offered to adults (19+) on low income and studying full time for a first full FE and LSC funded level 2 or level 3 qualification.
This grant will help those who've not succeeded in their initial education and want to get the qualifications they need for their future careers. It grant encourages people to stay on courses and achieve qualifications by helping overcome the barrier of cost of living, whilst they are studying.
ALG is not exclusive and students can access other learner support funds, as well as Career Development Loans alongside ALG, if they wish
The pilot is currently running in 25 areas across England, including Yorkshire and the Humber. The Humber and South Yorkshire started a pilot in the 2004/05 academic year and this year the pilot is been extended to North and West Yorkshire with a national role out planned for 2007/08.
