Skills Campaign

Over the next five years we and our partners the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, the Sector Skills Development Agency and learning providers across the country, aim to transform the way people think, feel and act about learning and skills. We hope that people will recognise the value of learning and want to develop their skills and, in the case of employers, those of their employees. We will achieve this ambition through a lasting, memorable and actively supported campaign which will be used and developed by everyone in Further Education.

City Strategy

Following submission of a joint City Strategy bid Birmingham, Coventry and Black Country City Region has been selected as a successful City Strategy consortia. The consortia will join up the work of Jobcentre Plus (JCP), the Learning and Skills Council West Midlands (LSC), local authorities (LAs), the voluntary and community sectors (VCS) and the private sector in tackling worklessness and low skills in the City Region.

Birmingham and Solihull Social Economy Consortium

To raise the profile of the sector in its region, Birmingham & Solihull Social Economy Consortium (BSSEC) has created this site as a resource for those looking for more information about social enterprise, what's happening in the sector, and how they can get involved.

Public Service Compact

From a fledgling organisation established in January 2003 with 12 members, the Public Service Compact today has a membership of over 30 employers with a combined workforce of over 100,000 employees. Its purpose is to bring together employers from across the Public Service sector in order to form a collaborative approach to the key issues of recruitment, retention and staff development.

September Guarantee

The 14-19 reforms and the public service agreement (PSA) target on the reduction of those 16-18s not in education, employment or training (NEET) require Local Authorities, Schools, the LSC and Connexions to establish a robust framework to ensure a clearer transition from pre to post-16 learning. To this end the Government Office checklist on 14-19 progress, earmarks the 2007/2008 academic year as the starting point for an incremental rollout of a ‘September Guarantee’ to learners.

Walsall 16-19 Competition

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) for the Black Country (BC) invites proposals in response to the need for new vocational learning for 16-19 year olds in West Walsall.
