The public consultation for the proposed merger of Yorkshire Coast College with the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education has now closed

The Learning and Skills Council confirms that the public consultation for the proposed merger of Yorkshire Coast College with the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education has now closed.

It wishes to thank all of those who made representations.

These representations have been considered by the two college Principals and the Joint Merger Steering Group and will inform the Full Merger Proposal.

The proposed merger would involve the dissolution of the Yorkshire Coast College Corporation and the transfer of its assets to the Grimsby Institute on 1 January 2010.

The proposal has been put forward by the colleges and has the full support of both Governing Bodies who believe that the merger will improve access to high quality learning bringing benefits to learners, employers and the wider community. The name of Yorkshire Coast College will be retained.

The LSC is required to undertake a statutory consultation on this proposal to meet its legal obligations as part of managing further education college reorganisations. Public notices have been placed in the local press, public libraries and at the college sites as part of this process.

The consultation started on the 22 April 2009 and closed for responses on the 4 June 2009.
