Skills Yorkshire and the Humber
The summer exam season is almost over and now the long wait for the results begins. Many students have an idea about what they will do next but not everyone will and some may have to change their plans when they receive their results. Being prepared to change plans can be difficult when you haven’t had a chance to consider all the options.
This Autumn young people across the region will have a chance to find out about all the opportunities available in Yorkshire and the Humber, by visiting Skills Yorkshire and the Humber at Sheffield Arena.
Sponsored by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in Yorkshire and the Humber, Skills Yorkshire and the Humber will be an inspirational careers event, the biggest being held in the region. Over 70 organisations will be there giving young people an interactive opportunity to find out about careers, education, skills and training.
Each young person is different and Skills Yorkshire and the Humber is different from the usual careers fair. Whether young people want to try cooking for a battalion in the Army field kitchen or making a report in the BBC studio there will be inspirational, hands-on activities to try. Many organisations from different sectors, such as Sheffield Hallam University and steel giant Corus will be there waiting to meet, talk and inspire the young people who will become the workforce of the future.
So if you are making a first choice about a future career or choosing an Apprenticeship, vocational qualifications, A-Levels or a degree course there will be someone able to help and advise at Skills Yorkshire and the Humber. Experts will be on hand to help with questions about work, education and training in dedicated Advice Clinics.
Still not inspired? As well as interactive activities provided by the vast range of exhibitors there will be a full timetable of dazzling performances on stage. The stage demonstrations will showcase what local colleges, training providers and sector skills councils have to offer young people. Visitors can watch fashion shows, cookery demonstrations, flamboyant dancers, hair and beauty makeovers and explosive science experiments.
Every young person from 14 onwards will gain from being at Skills Yorkshire and the Humber and we want them to have a chance to visit and see what their future could hold.
Margaret Coleman, Regional Director for the LSC in Yorkshire and the Humber, said “Our region is bursting with opportunities for young people and this event is about helping to identify the best route for each individual whether that is an Apprenticeship, vocational qualification, a degree or another form of learning.
This event provides an important platform for employers to showcase their job opportunities to over 7,000 young people who will play a vital role in driving the region’s economy forward as part of the future workforce.”
